Rules for Decorations

We request that you respect these guidelines so we can keep the Catholic Cemeteries a proper and sacred place for the burial of our departed brothers and sisters.

WHAT WE ALLOW

  • Specific flowers and shrubs with black hardwood mulch on monument lots, planted within the 12 inches directly in front of the monument
  • Potted plants (on Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, and All Soul’s Day. They will be removed on the Monday following the weekend after the holiday.)
  • Fresh, cut flowers and artificial flowers in a cemetery-approved vase (Artificial flowers only November 1 through March 1.)
  • American flags no taller than 2 feet

WHAT WE DO NOT ALLOW

  • Trees or any flowers and shrubs not approved by the cemetery
  • Balloons, pinwheels, wind chimes, lights, candles, statues, stuffed animals, or other similar items
  • Plastic, metal, wood, glass, or breakable containers
  • Planting around lawn-level or 8-inch marker spaces
  • Coarse bark, rocks or stone chips, gravel, border edging, fencing, or planted ground cover

Natural, fresh-cut flowers may be placed in Cemetery-approved vases at any time of the year and will be removed when they become unsightly or when it becomes necessary to facilitate cemetery operations.

Potted plants are permitted on Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day, and All Soul’s Day. They will be removed on the Monday following the weekend after the holiday.

Artificial flowers are permitted on graves only from November 1 through March 1. Christmas wreaths and other seasonal adornments may be placed on graves from December 1 through January 20.

One small American flag may be placed on a grave and will be removed when it is damaged, faded or tattered.

At no time shall any object be attached to a grave marker or niche/crypt cover, protrude above the top of an upright headstone, or encroach on an adjacent grave.

To preserve the dignity and appearance of the cemetery, the following items are prohibited:

·        Alcoholic products or other similar items

·        Balloons, pinwheels, wind chimes, lights, candles, statues, stuffed animals, or other similar items

·        Decorative and breakable glass or plastic items such as: vigil lights, glass vases or decorative glass

·        Non-cemetery supplied floral containers (pots, planters, vases, etc.)

·        Any objects that could become projectiles when caught in grounds maintenance equipment (such as rocks, coins, or other small durable objects)

·        Offensive items or those deemed inconsistent with the cemetery setting

·        Permanent in-ground plantings

·        Weapons of any kind, explosives, or ammunition

·        Any object attached to headstones, markers, or niche covers

·        Permanent markers or paint on headstones.

Cemetery personnel will inspect each grave for unsightly or unauthorized items weekly. These items will be disposed of upon removal.
